Yeah Right!

When publishing a comment at the Herald Sun website a little blurb comes up warning correspondents that their comments may be edited by a moderator or not published at all.

“Please note that we are not able to publish all the comments that we receive, and that we may edit some comments to ensure their suitability for publishing.

Feedback will be rejected if it does not add to a debate, or is a purely personal attack, or is offensive, repetitious, illegal or meaningless, or contains clear errors of fact.

Although we try to run feedback just as it is received, we reserve the right to edit or delete any and all material.”

Yeah right! I just wonder what they actually reject as a lot of the comments to the story about Oprah wanting to have one type of Golliwog removed from a display at a shop in the Block Arcade illustrates.

andrew of the village Posted at 12:13 AM Today are you kidding, whos this women think she is.if she doesnt like i for one would surly point her towards the nearest airport.

Yes. We really want to offend the host of the most watched TV show in the world. Tourists are fine except most of them are bloody foreigners.

Hugo park of melb Posted at 2:52 AM Today I have a oprah golliwog in my huge collection. They are my daughters toys. Im a australian aboriginal and i have had them since i was a child. Its only since racism was invented in USA in last ten years, that people find them offensive. I also have quite alot of white dolls too, but thats ok, they are not racist. lol. how silly is this topic. All reverse racist americans can leave my country.

Troll? Yep racism was invented in America in the year 2000. The Ku Klux Klan and Apartheid are just figments of our imaginatiuon. Pauline Hanson and the White Australia Policy never existed.

scott of brasil Posted at 4:10 AM Today i really cant stomach this woman and her sycophantic peanut gallery. “lose weight, it’s easy” she says. well, with 5 personal trainers and 5 personal chefs i reckon most aussie women would too. everything she does is for self publicity, re. opening a school for poor girls in sth. africa….. i agree, a very charitable thing to do. but why did she need the world’s media there as well? just like the pies premiership this year, thank god i’m not in australia for oprah!!!

The Pies Premiership was the best thing that happened this year.

Her minders would be upset the Gollies are better looking and not fat 🙂 Wonder how much $ it took to make the Gollies disapear for a while?

Surely calling someone ugly and fat breaches the Herald Sun’s policy of not publishing comments that are simply a perspnal attack on someone and are offensive and meaningless and do not add to the debate?

Oprah – the new face of US imperialism. Personally, I an deeply offended by the sheer effrontery of her and her lickspittles. So, next plane to Tulsa for you, old fatty. And as we don’t waver her goodbye, let us think harder about how we so willingly let over-reaching Americans tell we Australians how to live our lives.

Calling Oprah’s fans ‘lickspittles’ has gotta be considered offensive, even by Herald Sun standards.

Shows Australians are more tolerant than Americans of Wouldnt do it for us if we were offended in the US Posted at 6:40 AM Today
They are dolls for goodness sake. I wonder if the shop owner would remove a doll from display because it would offend one of our Aboriginal members I font think so. Who does Ms O & her traveling Circus think the are. This is the land down under this is Austalia. Why should we bend over backwards for this lady. We have now seen political correctness go to far, Cant celebrate our Christian Culture ( Sing Carols have Santa visit Schools Kinders etc & have to remove a Golliwog from dislpay for fear we offend Ms.O & her travelling Circus. Get over it or as another writer ( comment .2.said go to the nearest airport.

Santa Claus is part of our Christian Culture? WTF?

Only offensive to lefty nutters and PC idiots…is Barbie offensive to those not blonde and with perfect assets? Grow up!

Great contribution to the debate right there.

Little Black Sambina Posted at 6:59 AM Today
Just because Americans are racist and see slights in the least thing doesn’t mean the rest of us are that petty and ridiculously over-sensitive. I say anyone going to a filming of the show should take a golliwog with them!

Perhaps they should just dress up like the KKK while they’re at it?

Greg Brown of Sydney Posted at 7:12 AM Today
Photos of that cow are more offensive than the golliwogs and we have to put up with them in the papaers every day.

Calling someone a ‘cow’ is not a personal attack? It adds to the debate how?

Good Golly Miss Gollywog of Kew East Posted at 7:36 AM Today
Can anyone tell my why a gollywog doll is offensive, but a Raggedy Anne or Andy doll is not? Surely having dolls in both “black” and “white” is inclusive, whilst excluding the gollywogs from display because of their colour is racism in it’s basest form? Gollywog, in the Enchanted Faraway Tree, was one of my favourite characters when I was a kid and I was jealous of a friend who had a golly.

Because Raggedy Ann and Andy are meant to be rag dolls while Golliwogs look like caricatures of slaves?

Please, give me a break. I, like many, grew up with them, and yes, we called them golliwogs then, and i still call them golliwogs now. What the fluff is next, a golliwog with a full head scarfe that we will call a TERRORIST?

It wouldn’t be the Herald Sun comments section without one person making comments about Muslims even if the story is completely unrelated.
ange1 of melbourne Posted at 9:31 AM Today

I HAVE A LARGE COLLECTION OF GOLLIWOGS – I COLLECT THEM BECAUSE THEY ARE A REMINDER OF WHEN I WAS A KID & BLACK & WHITE DIDN’T MATTER & I FIND IT MORE OFFENSIVE TO MAKE A POINT OF SAYING THEY ARE OFFENSIVE – I AM ANGLO SAXON & TAKE OFFENCE TO “WHITE” BARBIE DOLLS IN SHOPS – DON’T SEE THE THE US REMOVING THEM FROM SHELFS AROUND THEIR COUNTRY NOR HERE FOR THAT MATTER – GLAD TO SEE THE HYPROCRITES ARE ALIVE & WELL !!

WHY DO YOU HAVE TO YELL? YOU ARE NOT INTELLIGENT ENOUGH TO EVEN BE ABLE TO SPELL CORRECTLY, LET ALONE UNDERSTAND WHAT THE ISSUE IS!!!

typical herald sun reader of the western suburbs Posted at 10:10 AM Today
THIS IS A BL**DY OUTRAGE WHAT IS WRONG WITH A GOLLIWOG HOW ABOUT YOU P*SS OFF BACK TO YOUR REDNECK COUNTRY AND TAKE THOSE 300 WHITE-SOCKS-AND-SANDALS WEARING FATTIES WITH YOU!!! **shakes fist at fat yank**

Pretty sure that telling someone to piss off does not add to the debate. Also pretty sure calling America a redneck country is a statement that carries clear errors of fact. Also pretty sure that calling people fatties is considered a personal attack and offensive. It does not add to the debate and is meaningless. So I ask again what exactly does the Herald Sun moderator do if a post like that which breaches several of the guideline is actually published?

MJ of Melbourne Posted at 10:10 AM Today
It looks like Oprah..oh wait, it isnt fat and annoying, my bad.

I would love to be one of the moderators at the Herald Sun website. Obviously as can be seen here, you get paid to do nothing at all.
