I am very sad. There is currently a newz story on AOL doing the rounds that lists the 10 most downloaded songs from iTunes ever (since 2003 anyway!). The list is depressing and just shows how much music has deteriorated in the last decade or so since the advent of auto-tune, American Idol and the demise of rock ‘n’ roll.

10) Kesha: ‘TiK ToK’ (2009)
9) Leona Lewis: ‘Bleeding Love’ (2007)
8) Taylor Swift: ‘Love Story’ (2008)
7) Flo Rida: ‘Low’ (2007)
6) Lady GaGa: ‘Just Dance’ (2008)
5) Coldplay: ‘Viva la Vida’ (2008)
4) Jason Mraz: ‘I’m Yours’ (2008)
3) Black Eyed Peas: ‘Boom Boom Pow’ (2009)
2) Lady GaGa: ‘Poker Face’ (2008)
1) Black Eyed Peas: ‘I Gotta Feeling’ (2009)

I know that older generations have always derided the music that the youth of the day lsiten to but you’d have to admit that the above list is shit. Songs #2, #3 and #10 are all particularly crap, but I guess that if we look back to when I was in my record buying days of the 1990s there would be a few skeletons in the closet (Milli Vanilli!!!). However back then quality always rose above the crap but now… the Black Eyed Peas are the best that the current generation can do… rock ‘n’ roll is dead…

Last week I dragged Priscilla to the National Gallery of Victoria for the last day of the AC/DC Australia’s Family Jewels exhibition. It was great to look at all the Acca Dacca memorabilia while the normally staid NGV rocked to Highway To Hell and Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap. It was the perfect antidote for crap like Ke$ha and Taylor Swift.
