R.I.P. Art Clokey

Just a small note to say that Art Clokey, the creator of Gumby, passed away this morning at the age of 88.

I remember watching Gumby on the ABC in the late 80s after school and remember how trippy it was. I now own the DVD set of the 1950s and 60s Gumby cartoons which are really way out there. It comes as no surprise that Art experimented with LSD back then.

Clokey also made Davey & Goliath, which I have never seen. Apparently it was made for the Lutheran Church and is quite popular in the US. All I know is that it was parodied a few times on the Simpsons over the years.

Of course if it was not for Art Clokey and Gumby there would be no Aardman Animation, which means there’d be no Wallace & Grommit.

* This may be kind of coincidental, but on my other blog I actually wrote a piece up on The Puppetoon Movie, which Gumby plays a starring role in.*
