Today is budget day, and from all reports it is going to be a tough budget, with lots of spending cuts. Already we have had Liberal Party members coming out to criticise the government on various things, including putting us into debt. The question that I want to ask Malcolm Turnbull is what is the alternative? The Lib’s have been bleating on about how they gave Australia a huge budget surplus again and again, yet they never had to deal with a global financial crisis which is the worst the world has seen since the Great Depression. When Howard was Prime Minister we were riding high on a mining boom, but China has tightened her belt and is no longer buying our raw products. Again I ask what would the Liberals do? I have heard a lot about what they would not do, but they have not offered any true alternative. They seem to just be opposing everything for the sake of opposing things. Then again they do not seem to be benefitting at all from this crisis as the Rudd government is as popular as ever. Maybe people are not so dumb and can see through Turnbull’s constant chatter to see that he couldn’t have done any better.
