In The Summertime – The Mixtures

Ever since Rage played this film clip last weekend this song and clip have been stuck in my head.

The problem with this song is that it is a cover version that only became popular because in 1970 there was a ban by Australian radio on playing British records, as well as a ban on playing Australian music released on the major record labels, which meant that Aussie stuff released on independent labels received much more airplay than they would normally have. This meant that the original version by Mungo Jerry was never played on Australian radio.

The Mixtures followed this song up with the equally annoying and equally successful Pushbike Song.
