Audi has just announced that their latest LeMans challenger is due to hit the track in the next few months. Audi are hoping their new R15 TDI will be as successful as the R8 and R10 TDI which have both dominated at La Sarthe over the past decade. “It was clear to us that we must develop a new car if we wanted to continue to be successful in Le Mans,” said Head of Audi Motorsport Dr Wolfgang Ullrich.  All we know is that the “R15” will be designed around a smaller, lighter, and more efficient TDI engine and that the chassis is open top. Here’s a few of Audi’s finests cars over the last 10 years.

This is the car as it debuted to the press in 1998.

2001 – 2005 Audi R8

2001 – 2002 Bentley EXP Speed 8
The Bentley was really an Audi R8C painted in British Racing Green.

2006 – 2008 Audi R10 TDI

So by looking at all of those pictures I can honestly say that the R15 TDI will look like a completely different car to the R10 TDI, as Audi does not do ‘evolutions’ of previous models.

Audi won Le Mans in 2000 – 2002 and 2004 – 2005 with the R8.
Bentley won Le Mans in 2003. Audi won Le Mans in 2006 – 2008 with the R10 TDI. Audi designed cars are so far undefeated at Le Mans this century. Will the R15 TDI continue the tradition?
