Big Bother

From all reports Big Brother’s ratings have been flushed down the toilet and it is easy to see why. The housemates seem to have been chosen for their freakish qualities rather than personalities. We’ve had a dwarf, a racist grandma, four young women with impossibly large breasts (Russ Meyer eat your heart out!) and high talker Travis who is so obviously confused about his sexuality (not that there’s anything wrong with that!).

Then there are the hosts Kyle and Jackie O, who really make me appreciate Gretel Killeen so much more. (We all know that having Jackie O as a host of any program is a kiss of death, as the only show that she’s been associated with that has lasted more than two seasons has been Popstars in the early 2000s.) Neither host seems to have much of a personality, but then it is hard to show any personality when you are so obviously reading off cue cards. In those very rare moments when the hosts have decided to ad-lib, it has been to either cheer on their favourite housemate, or to boo their least favourite housemate. If I remember correctly, Gretel Killeen was always impartial with the housemates and never let the audience know that she had any favourites, as this may influence the way that viewers vote. Obviously neither Kyle nor Jackie O care about whether they influence anyone’s votes, as they have clearly let everyone know who they should and should not vote for. (Grandma Terri, hooker Bridgett and high talker Travis!)

It also seems that it does not matter about the rules anymore as certain housemates are protected from eviction because they are favourites of the hosts and the producers. Grandma Terri was voted out on night one but has again become a housemate because KYLE SANDILANDS WANTED HER BACK IN THE HOUSE!!!! (He admitted this on his radio show!) OK, they want a racist old woman in the house so that there is tension between her and Asian housemate Nobbi, but rules are rules and she was voted out. If they were going to change the rules afterwards, why have them evict someone on the first night anyway?

Finally, there are all the lame celebrities that have been dropping into the house. First there was the world’s biggest douche bag Corey (Sorry, that should be ‘Party Boy’ Corey!) who was paid $200,000 to appear in the house. Then came ‘Queer Eye’ Carson, who amazingly was out ‘Queered’ by the supposedly straight Travis. Then there were the two ‘You Think You Can Dance’ judges whilst some hypnotist guy also appeared this week. Who knows which obscure celebrity is coming next?! Who cares?

Arrrggghhh!!!!

I am so frustrated. It seems that every time I solve one computer problem something else comes up. At the moment I am finding it impossible to get my printer to work with my new computer. My printer, a Canon MPC400, does not seem to be compatible with Windows Vista. I don’t want to have to get a new printer, as even though the one I have is 4 years old, it is still very good. I wonder what I am going to do.

Obviously neither Kyle nor Jackie O care about whether they influence anyone’s votes, as they have clearly let everyone know who they should and should not vote for. (Grandma Terri, hooker Bridgett and high talker Travis!) Of course Big Brother’s target demographic of 12 year olds will be so gullible that they will obediently vote for whoever they are told to!

It also seems that it does not matter about the rules anymore as certain housemates are protected from eviction because they are favourites of the hosts and the producers. Grandma Terri was voted out on night one, but has again become a housemate because KYLE SANDILANDS WANTED HER BACK IN THE HOUSE!!!! (He admitted this on his radio show!) OK, they want a racist old woman in the house so that there is tension between her and Asian housemate Nobbi, but rules are rules and she was voted out. If they were going to change the rules afterwards, why have them evict someone on the first night anyway? Why not just wait until the final eviction show and bring her back or give her permanent immunity, as they so obviously want her to win.

Finally, there are all the lame celebrities that have been dropping into the house. First there was the world’s biggest douche bag Corey (Sorry, that should be ‘Party Boy’ Corey!) who was paid $200,000 to appear in the house. Obviously not the Australian public as no-one is watching. Now… if only I can convince Priscilla to turn this crap off!!!

Finally I’m Back

This evening I finally got my computer hooked up to the internet, no thanks to AOL. I’ve had a bit of a blog backlog but have now gotten everything that I wanted to say published. Hopefully now I will be able to update this thing on a regular basis.

I went to work to download the AOL 9.0 program from www.oldversion.com. Fortunately the work internet uses a higher speed server than the City Library does, but it still would take 30 minutes to download the whole thing. (5 minutes my ass!) Anyway, I thought that everything would finally work out, when after 99% of the program had been downloaded onto my USB 512MB drive I received a message saying that my drive was full. It just does not seem to be my week! Perhaps this is a sign that I should just forget AOL. It just is so frustrating. Anyway I now have a bigger 1GB USB drive that should fit the whole thing in. I can only wonder what obstacle will present itself tomorrow.

“It’ll only take five minutes.” That’s what I was told by the AOL technician when he told me I had to download the AOL 9.0 program. With this news I went and booked half an hour on the computer at the City Library. Unfortunately their computer server was very slow and it would have taken me three hours to download the 186 MB file. This is just so frustrating.

Sigh! This is so frustrating. All I want to do is connect to the internet but AOL Australia has forced me to go on a huge wild goose chase in order to do so. Instead of them just sending me a disc containing the AOL start up program and browser, I have had to go out and find this program and download it all by myself, which is not very easy to do when you don’t have any internet access in the first place. Even worse, the program is not available at the AOL Australia website or even at AOL.com. Instead I had to go to a site called www.oldversion.com. I then had to scour this site to find AOL version 9.0, which is the only version of AOL that is compatible with both Windows Vista and Australia. As you can see, this is so very frustrating! Still, it’s only a matter of time before I ditch AOL for someone else, as I will soon be getting broadband and that seems like as good a time as any to join a new ISP.

The New Computer Arrived

Posted: May 23, 2008 in Computer Stuff

Our new computer arrived yesterday and I am quite excited. Notwithstanding the fact that AOL has made it almost impossible for us to access the internet, things look very good. The computer is big in size, with the monitor being especially huge due to Dell’s free upgrade. The computer is also surprisingly quite as well as quick, thanks to the Intel Core 2 Quad processor.

I have loaded up most of the essential programs that we need, including Microsoft Office, iTunes, Adobe Photoshop Elements and Fuji Finepix. The problem that we have is that these all need to be re-registered due to the change over to a new computer, which means that we need to have internet access, which has been a problem thanks to AOL, Hopefully once we have fixed that problem everything will run smoothly.

My new Dell computer will be arriving on Monday. It landed in Australia yesterday. I am quite excited, as I have been struggling without a computer for the last six weeks. I am excited because this will be the first time I have not had a generic brand computer. Here is a list of essential Downloads for my new computer.

  1. AOL 10.0 – yes, I know that AOL sucks. Especially AOL Australia. However I do need to access the internet and I don’t want to have to change all of my email addresses just yet.
  2. iTunes – I miss my iPod.
  3. Motorola V3 Razr driver for Windows – Motorola are such scam artists. They release a phone that allows you to take photos, yet they charge you an arm and a leg to enable you to download those photos to your computer. I have found a free driver for the V3, I just hope it works.
  4. Mozilla Firefox – because Internet Explorer sucks nearly as much as AOL.
  5. Skype – Because we have friends and relatives overseas and it will help cut down our phone bill.
  6. Real Player – I don’t know why, as it has been ages since I used it.

With my new computer on the way one thing that I have to do that I loath, is to reload all of my music onto it. I have to do this to keep my iPod up to date. Whilst I don’t mind having to load up all of my many cds, there is a ton of stuff that I downloaded to my old computer that I have now lost. (The lesson is always make a back up copy of all your MP3 and photo files)

Anyway, in getting ready to do this onerous task, I thought I would list some songs that will eventually make it back onto my iPod.

One group that will definately make it back onto my iPod is The Rolling Stones. I had over 200 of their songs on my iPod previously, including a downloaded copy of the unreleased and banned final Decca single that they made in 1969. (Because it was banned, it is quite easy to find online!) Here are my 10 favourite Stones’ songs.

  1. Sympathy For The devil
  2. 2000 Light Years From Home
  3. Happy
  4. Jumpin’ Jack Flash
  5. Shine A Light
  6. Brown Sugar
  7. You Can’t Always Get What You Want
  8. Little Red Rooster
  9. Honky Tonk Women
  10. Paint It, Black
