I have been doing some Photoshop on a few things that I may use later, if I ever get serious about the project I want to do. Here’s just a sample…
So far it’s just very basic stuff, but that is OK as I have never used Photoshop before. I’m sure I can make these look a lot better but I am not really interested in doing any tricks or anything.
It will be interesting to see how this all progresses and whether this project ever gets off the ground at all.
Collingwood finally beat Geelong

Here’s a Wells cartoon from The Age, June 5th 1953, just after Collingwood became the first team to defeat them since round 8 1952. In that period Geelong put together a string of 23 victories in a row. In fact Geelong had been undefeated in 26 matches in a row, due to a draw with Essendon in round 11 1952. Essendon were also the last team to beat the Cats in a match at the Brisbane Exhibition Ground three weeks before that. This unbeaten run is still an AFL record.
Collingwood – 1953 VFL Premiers

Here’s a cartoon from The Age by Wells, Monday September 28, 1953 to show Collingwood’s drought breaking premiership win. At this time it had been 17 years since the last Magpie premiership which back then must have seemed like such a long time. Who’d have thought that it would take 32 years after our 1958 win for us to again taste premiership glory? Or that we’d have to wait another 20 years after our 1990 triumph? Lou Richards features prominantly in Sammy Wells’ cartoons.
Here’s how Armstrong of The Argus recorded this monumental event, with the Mighty Magpies knocking the Geelong cat off it’s perch at the top of the VFL Premiership ladder.
