Just stumbled onto a great site that features the original Antonio Prohías Spy Vs Spy comic strips from MAD Magazine. As a kid it was always my favourite part of MAD, along with the usual gang of idiots like Dave Berg’s Lighter Side Of…, Don Martin, Duck Edwing, Sergio Aragones and Al Jaffee’s with his fold-ins.
I’ve read a few of the current issues of MAD and they definitely are not as good as it was when I was a kid. I know people have been saying that for 50+ years but in this case it is true. I saw in a current issue they tried to update the Lighter Side Of… with a writer putting new captions in place of the originals, but they just aren’t funny. The new version of Spy Vs Spy by Peter Kuper is just diabolical.
