FML

Here is one of those websites that I like to visit from time to time, especially when I’m feeling a bit down myself. It is good to have a little laugh now and then, even if it is at other people’s expense.

FML or F#ck My Life is a site where people submit articles detailing some horrible but hilarious incident that typifies their life at that point in time. The majority of submissions seem to come from teenagers dealing with the science of dating, which makes me a little relieved that my experiences in that area weren’t so horrible in comparison, although some I can relate too. Here are a few of the better articles…

“Today, two of my cousins sat me down and said they wanted to give me an early Birthday present. With straight faces, they look at me and say: “we signed you up for eHarmony, and paid for 12 months.” Not only do my cousins think I need help finding a boyfriend, but they think it take a year. FML”

“Today, after the church service was over, my two year old granddaughter started to sing into the microphone. She said, “Here Nana, you sing”. I picked up the microphone and proceeded to sing “Jesus Loves Me”. She took the microphone back and said, “No he doesn’t.” FML”

That would have to be my favourite one so far!

“Today, on the way to an exam I saw a car accident happen. I stopped, helped the woman who was injured and waited for the paramedics. I was too late at school, the teacher didn’t buy my excuse and I failed the exam. It was an examination of my first aid skills. FML”

“Today, my girlfriend dumped me proclaiming she wanted someone more like her “Edward”. I asked her who Edward was. She held up a copy of her “Twilight” book. She was talking about a fictional vampire. FML”

That one is just sad but I think that it would be extremely common. What is it with Twilight anyway?!

“Today, I forgot to do my French homework, but since it was an online worksheet, I told my teacher my internet wasn’t working. I told her with an e-mail. FML”

“Today, I went out on a first date with a cute guy. Turns out we won’t be going on a date again because I didn’t know the difference between “Star Wars” and “Star Trek.” FML.”

Who said that nerds can’t get dates?!

Jenson Button claimed pole position for tonight’s Monaco Grand Prix, but I don’t think that this will guarantee him victory in the race. We all know how important it is to be on pole on the streets of Monte Carlo, but he did not put in a quick lap until the final seconds of qualifying. Raikkonen starts second but has a lighter fuel load and a KERS advantage that should get him into the lead before the first corner.

Vettel is back in 4th and is very light on fuel. He will pit at about lap 12, 9 or 10 laps before Button. I expected better of the Red Bulls here, as they have performed well all week. Webber is starting in 8th place after a poor 3rd qualifying session, even though he was third fastest in Q1 and Q2. His poor strategy has put him way back, but I still think he will be quick enough to challenge for a podium.

The way it looks at the moment, it will be Button and Barrichello, who is starting 3rd, challenging for victory. The Ferrari will lead until the first round of pit stops, but after he pits on lap 18 Button and Barrichello should then dominate the race.

If Vettel was not so light on fuel and was not starting as far back as fourth I would have selected him as the winner, yet his only chance is to get to the front at the start and then run away with the race. Unfortunately the Ferrari has it’s KERS button that should allow it to jump to the lead, while Vettel needs to be a lot more aggressive than he has been lately and pass Button, Barrichello and Raikkonen on the track if he is to have any chance at victory.

I wonder if any other Victorians have noticed this, but the Safeway supermarket brand seems to be disappearing, being rebranded as Woolworths. I notice that the new supermarket in Carnegie was a Woolworths, not Safeway, whilst the QV city store has been rebranded as a Woolworths since its recent refurbishment. I think that the Chadstone store is also now a Woolworths. I notice that whilst the South Melbourne store is still branded as a Safeway, that the Safeway name has been taken off the receipt, replaced with the motto “The Fresh Food People”.

I wonder just why all this rebranding is going on and if it will work? I know it must be difficult for the company to be called Safeway only in Victoria but Woolworths everywhere else, however by changing the brand name it could have dire consequences, as Victorians have been calling the supermarket Safeway for over 45 years and it takes a lot to wipe away that amount of tradition and loyalty. Many Victorians may feel that things are being dictated from the head office in Sydney and abandon Woolworths for Coles. I also believe that Woolworths have tried and failed to rebrand their Victorian supermarkets before back in the 1980s when Woolworths first acquired Safeway.
