Here’s a story that has become infamous in the last couple of years thank to Superdickery. This is due to the Joker’s excessive use of the word boner, which I guess was not considered to be a double entendre back in the 1950s.

This has now been fully updated. Unfortunately I pulled my own boner by uploading these files to Photobucket. I didn’t ever expect this post to be so popular as I have now exceeded my bandwidth on Photobucket.

The OED’s first written instance of “boner” in the sense that we use it (erection) as 1962. It’s probable that it existed before then, since the context in which it is used assumes the reader will understand, but it wasn’t found in print:

Ummm…this is from 1951. And the phallic definition didn’t come around until 1962? That meant there was no double entendre possible in this comic. So why did they use the word ‘boner’ so many times?

I think this comic proves that the phallic definition existed at least as far back as the late 1940s, possibly earlier.

did anyone else pick up on bruce excitedly mentioning the new movie “greek victory”? another not so subtle hint that batman and robin are gay.
